Artists Biography
As story tellers, their interpretive ability
reaches it's peak in a performance that stays with the listener. As musicians, they
combine versatility and creativity as it suddenly changes its format to top 40. The
perfect combination of multi-instrumentalist and personality makes this a show you won't
want to miss.
Members
include: Guitarist Mike
Whitney, who plays a number of instruments including mandolin,
fiddle, harmonica and mountain dulcimer. He is also male lead vocalist. Mike
loves music, whether around the kitchen table with friends, a campfire with strangers or
on stage. He has been a musician for 35 years now, and has many styles and
influences including bluegrass, rock, gospel, country and folk. Mike has also
played in theatrical productions of The Who's "Tommy" and Pink Floyd's "The
Wall" at the Endicott Performing Arts Center, in Endicott, NY.
Female lead vocalist Jo
Whitney comes from a high energy, classic rock background. She
believes people
want to be entertained and is very comfortable doing so! Jo also produced the band's
CD's and along with Mike, co-wrote most of their songs.
On bass is
Chuck Kennedy and with equal competence he also plays guitar
and percussion (including drums). Chuck is much in demand as an instrumentalist.
Few musicians combine the art of discipline and creativity found in Chuck's musical
talents
which
range from sing-a-long to the roots of rock and roll.
Using talents rarely found in one individual, Guitarist Chris Becker changes his
musical persona each time he changes his guitar. On electric, he could be mistaken
for Angus Young. On acoustic, Tom Petty. He is at ease with an assortment of
music and is not to be overlooked.
Bob Twining plays
keyboard; other than the fact he one of the area's finest
musicians, his secret weapon is his dynamite personality that
explodes on stage. He thoroughly captivates an audience with
his own style of performing.
Drummer
Todd McLain
(a.k.a
"Animal" and "Maddog"): He's been playing everything from Christian Rock/Modern Gospel to Classic Rock, Modern Country,
Metal and Pop for 27 years and is still going strong and game for
anything. Todd is also a Singer/Song Writer, and started in the club circuit at the ripe old age of
16. He says he loves new challenges, and prides himself on being able to lay down a solid groove, full of kicks,
breaks and augments ("I like to make the drums talk!").
What next?
In December, 2002, a third CD Mike and Jo "Live" will be released.
Recorded as a duo, this CD will demonstrate their live acoustic show detailed with
story monologue. It will include 12 tracks total, featuring 2 songs from their first
CD and 3 from the second (all stripped down to a strictly acoustic format.) Once
again, The Higher Ground Acoustic Band reinvents their
performing act and proves their versatility.
